Lakes Of Pontchartrain V2 Lyrics

by Harvey Reid

(as sung by Martin Simpson )

Through streams and bogs and under bush, I made my weary way,

Though windfalls thick and devil’s floods, my aching feet did stray.

Until at last by evening start, on higher ground I gained,

And there I met with a Creole girl, by the Lakes of Pontchartrain.

Good evening to you Creole girl, my money is no good,

Although I fear the ‘gaitors, well I must defend the wood.

You are welcome here kind stranger, my house is very plain,

But we never turn a stranger out, by the Lakes of Pontchartrain.

She took me to her mammy’s house, and she treated me right well,

The hair around her shoulders, in them jet black ringlets fell.

I’d try to describe her beauty, but I find the words in vain,

So beautiful that Creole girl, by the Lakes of Pontchartrain.

Well I asked if she’d marry me, she said that could not be,

Because she loved a sailor, and he’s far away at sea.

She said that she would marry him, and true she would remain,

Even through he never did comeback, to the Lakes of Pontchartrain.

So farewell farwell you Creole girl, I’ll ne’er see you no more,

I’ll ne’er forget your kindness, in the cottage by the shore.

And at each social gathering, a flowing glass I’d drain,

And I drink a health to the Creole girl, by the Lakes of Pontchartrain

10.45 Amsterdam Conversations Lyrics

into a reciever with no tongue

offering, little to what it knows

Then a silence so heavy, broken hearts fall from throats

when heaven is remembered but never seen

through hearts shaped like kaleidoscopes

Eternaly, the sun has set to mourning

and contoured are the backgrounds

on the canvas to which our lives are painted

Candle in the Window from the Civil War Lyrics

Past the shuttered houses

Towards a solitary light

Burning in the window

Near a figure in a chair

Always sitting there

Quiet as a prayer

Does he close his eyes?

Heavy with the weight of being

Suddenly so wise

Tired of the demons

He must sit up there and fight

Deep into the night

Praying that he’s right?

Every evening I can see his shadow on the shade

And I don’t feel so alone or so afraid

There’s a candle in the window every night

Reflecting all our hopes and dreams

Or so it seems to me as I look up to see

That candle in the window every night

Burning like the yearning to be free

Far away and dim

Kept alive by him

Seven blocks away

Before I go to bed I fall down

On my knees and pray

That he will keep his candle burning

Just a moment more

Till he finds a way

That is what I pray

And I wonder does he see me passing by each night

As I look up to find his patch of light?

There’s a candle in the window every night

Reflecting all our hopes and dreams

Or so it seems to me as I look up to see

That candle burning in the window shining bright

Far away and dim

Kept alive by him

Towards a solitary light

Burgundy Years Lyrics

there was hope once in my heart when minstrels sang

sweet their song From the cup you made me drink the

potions of uncertainty My love never did perish I’ve

kept the memories inside

CHORUS

Burgundy Years

I remember everything

Burgundy Years

Death tolls ever dark its cheers

Blood it lingers still yet stirring where goodwill was once

endearing I’ve become the caretaker dutifully a saint

forlorn Marriage to the brotherhood by oaths sworn in

magicians wood The martyr of my Christian name slain by the scarlet crusades

Shall the words of misfits spoken be treated as jester’s tokens

There is but a glimmer full of the dim light you have

cast In time all heroes depart There was hope once in my

heart

Dark As The Grave Lyrics

Dark wherein my friend is laid

Sleepwalkers fill the boulevards

Pretty girls and backward boys

All the voices can be heard

An opera of the absurd

Dark as night Dark as the grave

Dark wherein my friend is laid

We welcome you We welcome you

The world of chaos far away

As the crowd of mourners said

Tragedy is nothing new

Dark as night
